The morning before Addy's birthday I was a bit panicked. We have a Carrete family birthday tradition, and I was worried we may have to miss Addy's 7th.
Before we left Fargo, I had bought pancake mix, sprinkles, and yummy toppings for Addy's Birthday Pancakes, but the gas for our stove was completely out!
A quick call to our translator/facilitator and in a few hours the property manager saved the day!
A quick note - many of the tourists in our new location are from Germany and while many people here do not speak English, German is heard and used often. Angel has been able to read and translate signs and communicate with our property manager using German. I am thankful he took several courses many years back, it has helped a lot!
It is with a merry heart that I can post this sweet picture!
Happy 7th Birthday, Addy!
Today is also the day we traveled to Budapest to begin work on Tomas's visa. For children, the US embassy will issue citizenship. Tomas will not have to go through the process of receiving a green card first. When we finalize the adoption (and paperwork) in October, he will enter the US as a citizen!
While waiting for our appointment, the kiddos played at a playground in front of the embassy, and Angel and I enjoyed a cup of coffee.
The official who conducted our interview was born in the same city as me (Panama City, Florida) and went to the same high school as my Mom (Choctawhatchee High School). He and his family even vacationed near my hometown (Cape San Blas). Crazy!
The interview went well. He was very helpful and, fun fact, it seems Angel may be the first naturalized US citizen to adopt a child from Hungary.
We then had lunch at the WestEnd Mall and, of course, ice cream!
Addy will be getting her ears pierced - a special birthday gift - when will all return to the States. But today, she picked out some earrings that she will be able to wear very soon!
Sadly, today is also the day we said good-bye to Angel and Addy. We dropped them off at a hotel near the airport. Their flight leaves tomorrow morning. My mom, grandmother, friends from church, and sister will all taking care of her in our absence. We are so thankful for our supportive friends and family!
Addy will have her first day of school on Friday (school officially started a few weeks ago), and Angel will spend a week at work before rejoining the three of us in Hungary to finalize everything.
I will be counting down the days until I can see this sweet (Birthday!) girl again! 💜💜💜
